This-N-That

Dalton, Ga.—AstroTurf announces it is the first vertically integrated manufacturer to fully recycle turf fields. When a field is being replaced, specialized machinery removes the infill. The entire field is then cut into manageable strips, rolled up, and shipped to the company’s recycling facilities. There the rolls are ground up, melted into pellets, and re-extruded into new plastics. Any element of the field that can be recycled is—including the backing, secondary coating, tall pile polyethylene fibers, and the nylon RootZone. Post-consumer uses for synthetic turf include pallets and other industrial applications. For more information, visit www.astroturf.com.

Outdoor Box Lacrosse Tournament A Success

Sport Resource Group hosted its first Box-Out Lacrosse tournament in July at Yale University’s Reese Stadium. It featured five portable ProWall systems with 30-minute games of 5 on 5. Typically called “box” lacrosse when the sport is played outdoors with walls, Yale University Mens Lacrosse Coach Andy Shay had the idea to place numerous ProWall Rink Systems side-by-side in order to have several teams and games playing at once. For details on future tournament dates and locations, visit www.box-out.com.

Inclusive Fitness Equipment Standards Approved By ASTM

Two new ASTM International standards will provide specifications for fitness equipment that will be accessible to users of all abilities, including those with disabilities—ASTM F3021, Specification for Universal Design of Fitness Equipment for Inclusive Use by Persons with Functional Limitations and Impairments, and ASTM F3022, Test Method for Evaluating the Universal Design of Fitness Equipment for Inclusive Use by Persons with Functional Limitations and Impairments.

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities, including physical, sensory and cognitive. ASTM F3021 and ASTM F3022 will be used to ensure the development and use of fitness equipment that meets the goals of the ADA.
