Thanks, Ron, for the excellent “Then And Now” post in the Week-Ender.” Right on!

Indianapolis Parks Board Member

Ron Ciancutti’s political comment, “Then and Now”… has no bearing on nor any relevance to the field of Parks and Recreation; such comments have no place in this magazine and should be discontinued … it does the magazine a disservice.

On “Start A Recreation Road Show,” Feb. 11 blog post:
Randy,

I read your “Week-ender” about starting a Recreation Road Show. I also downloaded the PowerPoint that you created about your recreation and library services and plan on using it in class. I am a professor at Northwest Missouri State University and this information will be great to share with students in our senior-level administration class.

New Aquatic Moves
Looking for some water exercises to spice up your schedule? Try these moves for a low-impact burn with a high-calorie kick:

Water Walking: In the shallow end of pool, start in waist-high water, walking back and forth across the width of the pool. For best results, try to lean slightly forward. For beginners, start in the shallow end of pool and gradually advance to chest-high water.

High Knees: In the shallow end of pool, standing chest deep, raise your knees as high possible, as if marching in place. Swing your arms at the same time.

Standing Knee: Stand waist deep in the water. Begin by standing straight and lifting your right leg to the surface of the water surface straight in front of you. Hold the pose for up to 30 seconds. Then bring your leg back to the starting position. Repeat with your left leg.

Aquatic Kicks: Standing in the shallow end facing the water sideways, hold onto the edge of the pool with your left hand, using your left leg for support. Lift your right leg with knee to chest and gently kick forward to straighten the knee. Repeat 5 times. Reverse position holding on to edge of pool with right hand and using right leg for support, facing the water sideways and doing kicks with left leg.

Calf Raise: Standing in waist-high water with your body straight, stand on your toes and hold that pose for 2 seconds. Then put your heels back on the floor of the pool and repeat using weights and repetitions that are comfortable.
