You’re Not Alone
Hello Ron,
I just wanted to write and thank you for moving me with your column in PRB December (“Looking For Integrity?”). Normally, I toss out most of the parks and rec publications I receive as a park board member. I simply don’t have time to read them all, conduct my own business, run a household, etc.
Something made me flip through this one though. I took the time to read your piece. As a mother of a teenager, and regarded as an “old-fashioned” one, I am bewildered by the rapid erosion of morals in our general culture … not limited to sports and celebrity. Your points hit home, and I had the astonishing feeling you may have snuck a few peeks at my heart and mind over the past 10 years. Thanks for publicly expressing what I thought were rare sentiments. It’s gratifying to know I am not alone!
Cheers!
Debbie Carlson-Gould, Program Manager
Snohomish, Wash.

I wish more people thought and felt like Ron Ciancutti–I know I do! After 36 years in the parks and recreation profession as a manager and superintendent, [I know] parents need to teach their children that respect, honesty and dedication are the greater virtues in life and that winning at all costs is not the answer. Life is fleeting and letting one day pass without purpose is wasteful.
