Information By Design

“Bill? Bill?”

No matter how many times I shook the cell phone or turned up the volume, Bill was gone – lost forever in the sink full of soapy water I was using to wash that Saturday’s “big breakfast” dishes.

Like all old-school folks, I figured I’d just dry out the phone and give Bill a call back, but as you sophisticated cell phone aficionados no doubt already know, that was not to be the case.

My phone was dead – and since we had adopted a cell phone only policy in our household, I was out of contact with the world.

Obviously, that’s bad for the world.

So, I grabbed my seven-year-old consultant (daughter) and headed to the local AT&T store where she walked me from phone to phone explaining, as only a 2nd grader can, why one phone was better than another. In the end, she proclaimed the iPhone winner.

As our salesmen went about the business of setting up our account, my daughter went about the business of showing me how to use the phone.

She was so knowledgeable I couldn’t help but ask, “Do your friends have this phone?”

“No.”

“Then, how do you know how to use it?”

“I don’t know. I just do.”

And there, in those six words, is the ultimate compliment for any product or service.

So, the big question? Does the site work?

To test it out, I gave my daughter the address and had her check it out.

I watched with interest as she zipped around, commenting on this or that.

Again, I couldn’t help but ask, “How do you know how to use the site?”

Again, she answered.

“I don’t know. I just do.”

Ahh, success!
