CA Park District Appoints Lands Manager

The East Bay Regional Park District in Oakland, Calif., has named Robert Nisbet as the new assistant general manager of its Land Division. He will replace Nancy Wenninger, who is retiring.

Nisbet has more than 20 years of professional management experience, most recently as general services director for Santa Barbara County in Southern California. Prior to his 12-year tenure with the county, he was the public works director for the city of Carpinteria, Calif., and before that worked as a project engineer for Martin, Northart and Spencer, Civil Engineers and Construction Managers.

Nisbet has a long history of public service, with experience in complex project management, real property negotiation, municipal budgeting, and strategic planning.

“Bob’s varied local government experience makes him an excellent choice for the position,” said Robert E. Doyle, the park district’s general manager. “Bob has considerable experience working in both the public and private sectors as well as with nonprofits, community groups, and citizen advisory groups, and he has managed projects that included the creation of trails in the Los Padres National Forest.”

Doyle also said Nisbet has a keen understanding of California’s environmental regulations.

The East Bay Regional Park District, located in the San Francisco East Bay area, is the largest regional park agency in the nation, with 65 parks, 111,000+ acres, and over 1,150 miles of trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

The Land Division is comprised of nearly 20 employees, including planners, right-of-way agents, and geographic information specialists. The division is responsible for environmental compliance, interagency planning coordination, and regional trails development, in addition to planning land acquisition and preservation.
