The city of Long Beach, Calif., will be holding a mobility tour and case study of its bike program May 4.
In 2007, the city committed itself to becoming the most bike-friendly urban city in the nation.
Recent achievements include:
• The introduction of bike sharrows
• A bike boulevard (first in Southern California)
• Bike corrals
• A cycle track
• Traffic calming strategies
• A new central bike station
• Dedicated class-one bike lanes downtown.
The city has successfully leveraged over $17 million in funding to encourage bicycle mobility efforts.
On May 4, a panel will explore the strategies Long Beach has implemented, how it can serve as a model for urban cities across the United States,and how it affects the built environment.
The meeting will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Promenade Phantom Galleries Space, 170 N. Promenade, Long Beach.
