This-N-That
Last year, 14-year-old Leah Blum died at a West Virginia camp when a tree limb fell 35 feet and onto her tent. According to media reports, some speculated whether heavy rains were to blame for the accident. This winter, take the time to walk your camp property–look around at the trees for broken or rotting limbs, survey the ground for potential tripping hazards, such as tree roots and crumbling sidewalks and examine playground equipment and picnic tables for structural problems. Although every accident cannot be avoided, a short walk and a quick glance might make the difference between a diversion and a disaster.
