MV Sport/Weatherproof, a supplier of custom-decorated apparel based in Bay Shore, N.Y., is installing a large solar panel system that will generate power for most of the company’s electrical needs.
Nearly 5,000 state-of-the-art photovoltaic cells will convert the sun’s rays into more than 1.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity in one year.
According to Josh Peyser, MV Sport/Weatherproof’s president, solar power will generate more than 90 percent of MV Sport’s annual power usage.
“MV Sport/Weatherproof is making a multi-million-dollar investment in sustainable, clean solar power. The environmental impact will be significant–a reduction of 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions,” Peyser said.
To put that in perspective, the clean energy generated isthe equivalent of recycling 40 million soda cans, planting 150,000 trees, or saving 105,000 gallons of gasoline.
The solar panel installation is based in the Bay Shore, N.Y., headquarters, which houses MV Sport/Weatherproof’s screen printing, embroidery, warehousing, customer service, and art departments.
Peyser notes that “the first half of the installation is complete and we are already generating power. The remaining panels are expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
“This is one of the largest solar power facilities in the region, and we believe the largest in our industry.”
