It can be hard to send your child off to summer camp. Who will make sure he washes his hands? What if she has trouble making friends?

A little child-parent separation is a good thing, Mom and Dad!

But, of course we all know that camp is good for kids. They learn to be independent, to solve their own problems, to make new friends, and to learn life skills.

It’s also a good thing for parents. Giving up constant control of your child is an important part of parenting.

Here’s an interview from with psychologist Michael Thompson, author of “How Time Away From Parents Can Help a Child Grow,” who says a little child-parent separation is a good and healthy thing:
